This page explains what this website and the Hux app store, and why.
This website
- This website uses no cookies, no analytics and no trackers.
- Everything loads from this website itself, including the font. No other company sees your visit through a script on this page.
- Your language choice is saved in your own browser, and never leaves it.
- The server that hosts this website may briefly keep technical logs, such as your IP address, to keep the site safe.
- Links to Discord, TikTok and YouTube take you to those companies, and their own privacy rules apply there.
The Hux app
Hux is a chat and call app for friend groups and communities, in your browser and as an app for iPhone and Android. Hux is a closed beta: you can only join with a personal invite code. Hux has no ads, sells no data and uses no trackers or analytics.
What Hux stores
- Your account: username, display name, date of birth (to check you are at least 13) and your password as a hash. We never store the password itself. If you turn on 2-step login, also the secret key and your recovery codes (as a hash).
- Your profile: profile picture, banner, bio, pronouns, colour, status and your Huxels (points and what you own from the shop).
- What you share: messages, reactions, polls, DMs, photos and videos, custom emoji, stickers and sounds, and your plans in the squad schedule.
- Also: your squads, friends and blocks, your settings (language, notifications, quiet hours, layout) and one login session per device. A session you don’t use for 60 days expires.
- Only if you turn it on: the address your device fetches push notifications from, your Discord ID if you link Discord, and your Steam ID with your game list if you link Steam.
Photos, videos and calls
- Photos are saved again without hidden data such as your location. We remove that data from videos too.
- Calls, camera and screen sharing are encrypted and go directly between devices where possible. If that doesn’t work, they go encrypted through our own relay server. Hux never records anything.
Your IP address
The app’s server only keeps your IP address briefly in memory, for spam limits (for example too many wrong passwords). It is not stored in the database.
Other services the app uses
- Cloudflare sits in front of the server (security and speed), so it sees your IP address.
- Google: the app loads its font from Google Fonts and uses a Google server to find your connection for calls (STUN). Google sees your IP address, not what you say or type.
- Have I Been Pwned: when you choose a new password, we check whether it appears in known data breaches. Only the first 5 characters of its hash are sent, never your password.
- Push services (from Apple, Google or Mozilla) deliver notifications. The content is encrypted, so they can’t read it.
- Discord and Steam only if you link them yourself. Game covers are loaded from Steam’s servers.
Who sees what
- What you share in a squad or DM is seen by the people there, depending on the squad’s permissions.
- The Hux admin can block or delete accounts in case of abuse. If an admin visits a squad, they show up in the member list.
- We don’t sell anything or share anything with advertisers.
How long
For as long as your account exists. When you delete a message or file, it’s gone. Before every update we make a backup of the database on the same server; deleted data can remain in it until that backup is cleaned up.
Deleting your account
In the app: Settings, Password & security, Delete account, and confirm with your password. Your account, messages, files and DMs are deleted right away. Squads you own go to the member who joined first.
Age
You must be at least 13 to use Hux.
Questions
Want to know what Hux has about you, or have a question about your data? Message the admin through the Hux server on Discord.
